![]() © 2002 Jeff Schroeder dvTome is an online application that actually began as an exercise in databases. I had a complete copy of the Bible, courtesy of Project Gutenberg, and wondered how difficult it would be to import the entire manuscript into a database and perform searches on it. As it turns out, it wasn't difficult at all-- the first cut at this application took a little over two hours to implement. Now, of course, there is more advanced functionality, but the principle is the same: you can search bodies of literature for words and phrases, and even peruse the verses and chapters. There are quite a few tomes in the "library", and I plan to add more as I obtain the data. To begin, just click the Tomes link above to view a list of all available tomes. Oh, one more thing: the Help link in the upper-right corner is context-sensitive and will give you a bit of information about whatever page you're using. The application was designed to be fairly self-explanatory, but help is there just in case. |
